Welcome to Progressive Discoveries. The portal explores the worlds of progressive rock music, wine, education and travel. What binds them all together is the conviction that learning is an experience which happens through the progressions we make as a result of the discoveries we encounter.
How often do we tell someone about a great album we’ve listened to, a wonderful wine we’ve tasted or a beautiful place we have visited? We come across things which delight and surprise us, as a result of which we naturally want to find out more about them and explore other things similar or related to them. We tell other people and sometimes they go and discover these things for themselves, talk to us about them and maybe tell others about them – and the process of discovery starts all over again!
I am an interdisciplinarian. I believe education happens in relation to and with other people. We learn together. After spending 12 years in higher education as Head of Philosophy and Course Leader for Theology at an Oxford College, I set up my own interdisciplinary global research, conferencing and publishing network specialising in bringing people together from different contexts, disciplines, NGO’s, professions and vocations.
I also write album and concert reviews for The Progressive Aspect as well as for Progradar and collaborate with Anthony Rowsick on a weekly radio show called Prog-Watch for Progzilla Radio. I have a segment on the show entitled Progressive Discoveries. Each week I take a theme or issue and take a look at how it is being explored in and through music.
Science fiction, thrillers and a smattering of horror are favourite genres both in terms of the books I read and the films I watch. I am also a long suffering Arsenal fan and hold a keen interest in international rugby and American football.
